【摘要】:Beforeproceedingwiththistestmethod,refertothematerialspecificationforthematerialbeingtested.Anytestspecimenpreparation,conditioning,dimensionsandtestingparametersrequiredbythematerialsspecificationshalltakeprecedenceoverthoserequiredbythistestmethod.Table1ofClassificationD4000liststheASTMmaterialsstandardsthatcurrentlyexist.Ifthereisnomaterialspecification,thentherequirementsofthistestmethodapply.Thependulumimpacttestindicatestheenergytobreakstandardtestspecimensofspecifiedsizeunderstipulatedconditionsofspecimenmounting,notching(stressconcentration),andpendulumvelocityatimpact.Forthistestmethod,theenergylostbythependulumduringthebreakageofthespecimenisthesumoftheenergiesrequiredtoinitiatefractureofthespecimen;topropagatethefractureacrossthespecimen;tothrowthefreeendsofthebrokenspecimen(tossenergy);tobendthespecimen;toproducevibrationinthependulumarm;toproducevibrationorhorizontalmovementofthemachineframeorbase;toovercomefrictioninthependulumbearingandintheindicatingmechanism,andtoovercomewindage(pendulumairdrag);toindentordeform,plastically,thespecimenatthelineofimpact;andtoovercomethefrictioncausedbytherubbingofthestrikingnoseoverthefaceofthebentspecimen.Note58212;Thetossenergy,ortheenergyusedtothrowthefreeendsofthebrokenspecimen,issuspectedtorepresentaverylargefractionofthetotalenergyabsorbedwhentestingrelativelydenseandbrittlematerials.NoprocedurehasbeenestablishedforestimatingthetossenergyfortheCharpymethod.Fortough,ductile,fiber-filled,orcloth-laminatedmaterials,thefracturepropagationenergyisusuallylargecomparedtothefractureinitiationenergy.Whentestingthesematerials,energylossesduetofracturepropagation,vibration,frictionbetweenthestrikingnoseandthespecimenhasthepotentialtobecomequitesignificant,evenwhenthespecimenisaccuratelymachinedandpositioned,andthemachineisingoodconditionwithadequatecapacity(seeNote6).Significantenergylossesduetobendingandindentationwhentestingsoftmaterialshavealsobeenobserved.Note68212;Althoughtheframeandthebaseofthemachinemustbesufficientlyrigidandmassivetohandletheenergiesoftoughspecimenswithoutmotionorexcessivevibration,thependulumarmcannotbemadeverymassivebecausethegreaterpartofitsmassmustbeconcentratednearitscenterofpercussionatitsstrikingnose.Locatingthestrikingnosepreciselyatthecenterofpercussionreducesthevibrationofthependulumarmwhenusedwithbrittlespecimens.Somelossesduetopendulumarmvibration(theamountvaryingwiththedesignofthependulum)willoccurwithtoughspecimensevenwhenthestrikingnoseisproperlypositioned.Inawell-designedmachineofsufficientrigidityandmass,thelossesduetovibrationandfrictioninthependulumbearingandintheindicatingmechanismwillbeverysmall.Vibrationallossesareobservedwhenwidespecimensoftoughmaterialsaretestedinmachinesofinsufficientmass,orinmachinesthatarenotsecurelyfastenedtoaheavybase.Sincethistestmethodpermitsavariationinthewidthofthespecimensandsincethewidthdictates,formanymaterials,whetherabrittle,low-energybreak(asevidencedbylittleornodrawingdownorneckingandbyarelativelylowenergyabsorption)oraductile,high-energybreak(asevidencedbyconsiderabledrawingorneckingdownintheregionbehindthenotchandbyarelativelyhighenergyabsorption)willoccur,itis........
